Monostor Wetland (Monostorski rit) is part of the Gornje Podunavlje (The Upper Danube) Special Nature Reserve. It is a floodplain at the left bank of the Danube alongside the villages of Bezdan and Backi Monostor with vast riparian forests of oak and ash, willow and poplar, interspersed with river branches and ponds, dump meadows and reedbeds.

More than 230 bird species were recorded in the reserve: Greater White-fronted and Greylag Geese, Garganey, Ferruginous Duck, Black Stork, Black-crowned Night and Purple Herons, Eurasian Spoonbill, White-tailed Eagle, Whiskered Tern, Tawny Owl, Middle Spotted and Black Woodpeckers, Short-toed Treecreeper, Collared Flycatcher, Marsh Tit, Hawfinch, Reed Bunting, etc.

Getting there: Access is possible from the Sombor – Bezdan road, from Bezdan along the dyke heading southwards, or along the dykes spreading from the village of Monostor.

When to go: Breeding season is the main period, but migration is also good, and if there is no ice, wintering too. From late April, carry an insect repellent with you.
