Petrovaradin Wetland (Petrovaradinski rit) is a floodplain at the right bank of the Danube. It is a complex of ponds and canals overgrown with reeds and alluvial forests of ash, willow and poplar, as well as the hybrid black poplar plantations.

Birds to look for are Ferruginous Duck, Goosander (in winter), Black and White Storks, Pygmy Cormorant, Little Bittern, Purple Heron, White-tailed Eagle, European Turtle-Dove; Black, Eurasian Green and Grey-headed Woodpeckers, Red-backed Shrike, Eurasian Golden Oriole, Short-toed Treecreeper, Savi’s Warbler, Reed and Corn Bunting, Linnet, Serin, Hawfinch, etc.

Getting there: This wetland lies between the towns of Petrovaradin and Sremski Karlovci, along the road connecting them.

When to go: migration and breeding season. From late April, carry an insect repellent with you.
